Summer Vacation Essentials

June 22, 2017

The first day of summer has officially come and gone and the heat has definitely made it's way to Nashville! And with summer comes a lot of planned trips! Of course I am doing my annual trip to New York to see Anthony to celebrate our anniversary, so I was inspired to come up with a list of things that I feel are essential items to having a fun and safe summer! So if you're planning on taking a vacation or a trip somewhere this summer, but don't really have an idea of what to pack, keep on reading and hopefully this post will help you out!

  1. Sunscreen : It's a no-brainer to pack a sunscreen/sunblock during the warmer and sunnier seasons. Ever since I got my tattoos I always made sure to put sunscreen on before leaving the house, but I never realized that I was forgetting to apply sunscreen to the most important part of my body, my face! If you're big on skincare and preventing premature aging, applying a sunscreen to your face and neck is a must! Coincidentally enough Glossier just released their Invisible Shield Sunscreen just in time for summer, and just in time for me to want to start going the extra mile with taking care of my skin.
  2. Dry Shampoo: With the humidity and heat, your scalp is going to get oily but washing your hair every day does more harm than good. So opting for a dry shampoo is the way to go, especially if you don't have the time to go through the whole hair-washing process! Dry shampoos are going to be your best friends during the hotter seasons for sure!
  3. Comfy + Cute Everyday Sandals: Having a pair of sandals that you can just easily slip in and out of is a must-have for me. Owning a pair that can basically go with everything is my closest is an added bonus. So if I were to shop for a pair of versatile sandals that I can dress up or down I usually tend to go for something strappy and in the color black. With it being a bit more strappy, it's not so boring but not too in your face either. And because black is a neutral color and goes with just about anything and everything.
  4. A Good Read: With traveling, you'll find yourself stuck in either a plane or on a long car ride, so having a good read handy will make your travels a bit more pleasurable and tolerable to say the least. Whether it be one of your favorite magazines or a book you don't mind reading over and over, having a physical book compared to your phone screen is a bit more "authentic," not to mention probably a lot better for your eyes. Also with books or magazines you don't have to worry about whether or not your have wifi or service to connect to!
  5. Eyebrow Product: If I was on a deserted island and could only bring one makeup product with me, of course it would be my handy-dandy eyebrow pencil. In the summer time, especially, I try to let my skin breathe as much as possible, not to mention I'm a bit self-conscious of my face being lighter than the rest of my body. So I try to equally give both my face and body the same amount of sun exposure possible. Not to mention letting my skin and my pores breathe is always refreshing! But I most definitely, if anything, have to have my brows done! So yeah my acne scars may be more visible than usual, but as long as my brows are on fleek, I'm a-okay.
  6. Night-Time Serum: After a long day of sun exposure, sweat, and humidity it's nice to wash it all away then treat your skin to a night time serum. One of my all-time favorites (no surprise) is the Sunday Riley Luna Oil. I finally ran out of my full sized bottle, and I want to say it lasted me for almost 2 years. I strongly stand by this product and I love using this after a long day of work and when my skin really needs a pick me up. Ten times out of ten I always wake up with my skin looking more supple, healthier, and glowy!
  7. Camera: Summer time is the time to make the most memories! You have more free-time and are bound to go out more so taking pictures is a must! I am a big advocate on taking pictures of everything and anything for any occasion and love looking back on photos/videos I took from certain time periods. To make things more "surprising" I suggest getting a polaroid camera! Having a physical copy of a photo just makes the moment a bit more genuine, in a sense. I love how polaroids have made a comeback and having access to a polaroid camera is easier than ever! I have the Fuji Instax Mini 7, but I recommend getting the latest version (Fuji Instax Mini 9) because it has a selfie-mirror on the front so that way you don't waste film getting the perfect selfie/shot.
  8. Water Bottle: Staying hydrated is a big must for the summer! Nothing can kill your summer fun more than dehydration or worse, a heat stroke. Using a reusable glass bottle is an easy way to make sure you're always hydrated. Also with it being glass, it's good for you and the environment! You can find reusable (it doesn't have to be glass) bottles almost anywhere like Target or even Ross and TJ Maxx!
  9. Cash: I like to carry a couple bills around in my wallet because sometimes there are places, especially if you're visiting somewhere new, that may not accept card. So having some extra cash on you always comes in handy!
  10. An open-mind: And to have a good summer, always keep an open mind! You never know the possibilities that summer has in store for you. But trust your gut and make good choices!
And those are all of what I feel are essential to pack when going on a mini-vacation or road trip this summer. I admit, summer is one of my least favorite seasons because of how hot and humid it can be (not to mention all the bugs!) However I also low-key love summer because the days are longer and it's nice and sunny! Hope summer is treating you all well and that you all make the most of your summer this year! Stay hydrated and have tons of fun!
