2016 In Review // Challenges For The New Year

January 1, 2017

Another year is coming to an end and if you've been reading my blog since last year you would know I made a list of accomplishments that I wanted to achieve for 2016. So just to kind of knock it out of the way first I can proudly say I accomplished more than half of the list.
1. Run 1 mile in 10 minutes or less // 2. Squat 50 pounds // 3. Do 20 pull ups consecutively // 4. Save up at least $1000 // 5.  Get back into school // 6. Start my Vlogging adventures
The only ones out of the six that I didn't do were number 3 and I guess you can kind of say number two. Number two I want to say I kind of accomplished because I can squat fifty pounds total (25 pound weights on each side) but if you're looking at it like fifty pounds on each side (100 pounds total) than I was no where near that marker lol. My max was about 30-35, but considering at the beginning of the year I was struggling with only ten pounds, I'd say 25 is a big improvement. As for the pull ups, I can still barely only do one. That is my fault though, I didn't really focus on the pull ups as much as I did on everything else. But I am super duper proud to say that I managed to run one mile in 9 minutes and 8 seconds!!
It is a new year and I am starting it off in New York with Anthony! I'll be posting more about this trip later on, but for this post I wanted to focus more on what I want to achieve for 2017. Just like last year, I hardly ever have any resolutions but I always have a list of things I'd like to accomplish by the end of the year. For 2017 here are some things I hope to do and accomplish:
1. Go somewhere new // 2. Finally learn how to ride a bike // 3. Learn how to juggle // 4. Run one mile in 7 minutes
This year's list is a bit short, but I'm sure I'll probably add more to the list as the year goes on. And I know some of you are probably thinking, "Wow, you're 23 and don't know how to ride a bike?" and YES I know, it's a bit sad. I just never got the chance to learn when I was a kid haha so that's why I made it a goal this year to finally learn! I almost got it down earlier last year when Monty and Eshie tried to teach me, but as soon as I almost got it down, it started to rain. 2017 will be the year I learn though! While learning how to ride a bike I thought it'd be pretty cool to pick up juggling just because it seems like a cool, random skill to know. And of course traveling is good for the soul so I definitely want to do a lot more of it this year (and of course in future years to come).
I admit, 2016 wasn't the best year, but the tough times only make us stronger. I'm still learning and dealing with daily life struggles of course, but I learned a lot about myself this past year and I'm slowly growing more into the person I want to be. 2016 was the year I rekindled a lot of old friendships that I didn't expect to rekindle. Anthony and I celebrated our two year anniversary and went on two hiking trips together! Sadly, I didn't go anywhere new outside of Nashville or New York. I didn't even go to Atlanta, and I felt I would always somehow randomly end up in Atlanta. I also found a new hobby/addiction in 2016, and no surprise here, but I'm talking about dead lifting. I am aiming towards getting stronger and moving up in weight!
One final note, I know others are feeling a bit uneasy about what this year is going to bring, I admit I am too, but we should all try and keep a positive state of mind!
