Last Friday Night

February 17, 2016

When you're in a long distance relationship it's tough not being able to spend Valentine's Day together. This year will be Anthony and I's second Valentine's Day together but we have yet to actually spend it together, physically. (Not that kind of physical lol) But I don't know if it's just because I'm getting older but Valentine's Day is or actually has never been that important to me. Maybe because every Valentine's Day prior to when I met Anthony, I was single AF lol.

Nashville may not be as big as NYC or have plethora of well-known food chains like California, but Nashville has a lot more to offer than people think. When people who don't live in Nashville think of Nashville the answer I always get is something along the lines of, "People ride around in horses and live on a farm." And Nashville is anything but that, so if you find yourself in Nashville this Valentine's Day or just happen to be in Nashville in general and want to know of some places to check out give these places I've listed below a peek!
1. Love Circle
The Love Circle is a well-known spot to Nashville locals. It's a nice little spot that has a beautiful view of the city. Although I'm sure that it's going to be quite busy on Valentine's Day, this spot is usually open to the public all year round. I'm not even sure if this is classified as a park or something, it's just an open field and it's right next to a famous country singer's house. (Not sure their name but that's just what I've heard) It's kind of in a hidden location and it's really easy to miss if you don't know how to get there, but you go down Murphy Road and it's off Acklen Avenue onto Love Cir.

While I do enjoy going out and exploring the city deep down I will always be a home-body. And one of my favorite things to do when I'm not really feeling like going out is a movie night! I've come up with a list of my top five favorite date night movies and I've categorized them by genre-ish. And just a heads up I did want to include horror films in this list but I figured since it's the month of Valentine's Day and you really don't want to scare your Valentine while on your date, I decided it was best maybe to keep the guts and gore out this time. Also the movies I listed are  just suggestions and movies I personally feel are really great movies to watch, whether it be by yourself or with your boo.

Starting things off with a CLASSIC/OLDIES FILM. And when I think of classic films instantly I think of "the Sandlot".This movie in particular came to mind when I first thought of writing this post because it was the movie Anthony and I watched on our first date. It's a super adorable and funny movie about kids who love playing baseball and all the whacky adventures they go through the summer.

Next up are FAMILY MOVIES.  You can never go wrong with a Disney or Pixar film for a movie date. One of my all time favorites is UP. In my opinion Up is one of the best movies ever and I swear if it doesn't make you cry then you are heartless. You'll laugh, cry, and laugh again. This movie leaves you with a "feel good" feeling and I think those kinds of movies are probably some of the best movies you can watch with a loved one. Another movie I would recommend would be Ratatouille, it's also one of my all time favorites and if you and your boo love food, movies, and movies about food then I would give Ratatouille a watch.

Third, we have ROMANCE of course, what would Valentine's Day be without a cheesy romance film? Out of all the romance films and love stories out there 10 Things I Hate About You is my number one favorite. It has an original story line and the character development is on point. Throughout the movie you can't help but swoon over how Heath Ledger and Juila Stiles start to fall in love with each other. Also c'mon now, Heath Ledger is serious eye candy *wink* My all time favorite scene is when Heath Ledger (Patrick) sings to Julia Stiles' character, Kat. If that doesn't make your heart melt then I don't know what will. And when Kat finally reads the 10 things she hates about Patrick, I try not to cry every time, and I fail....every. single. time.
Fourth on our list is a THRILLER/ACTION film. Guardians Of the Galaxy--
A movie with lots of action, an awesome soundtrack, and gives a good laugh, Guardians Of The Galaxy has it all. This movie appeals to everyone and anyone. Even if you and your bae aren't comic book nerds you don't have to know the Guardians of the Galaxy comics to enjoy this movie. Even though this is a more of an action-packed film there's a bit of romance going on for the main character so it pleases all those romantics out there who have that adrenaline junkie significant other who may not be a fan of those hardcore romance films like The Notebook.
Last but not least, a good ol COMEDYThis Is The End is one of mine and my boyfriend's favorite movies to watch together and it never fails to make us laugh. Everyone loves a good laugh and whenever Seth Rogen and James Franco get together it's comedy gold. And there's nothing like a night in, cuddling with your bae, and watching a comedy film that makes you both almost pee your pants. So if Pineapple Express, Neighbors, or Superbad are your type of movies then This Is The End will be right up your alley.
A movie and dinner will never go out of style in my opinion, and what's even better is when you can enjoy that movie and dinner in the comfort of your own home! What are some of your go-to movies when you just want to spend the night in? Also, be sure to check back on the blog for more Valentine's Day posts!

Another snowy day here in Nashville. I got ready at 6 am this morning with plans to head to campus only to realize after I was done getting ready that campus wasn't going to open until 9:30. I got lazy;  the roads aren't all that great so I stayed home. I also have the day off so of course what else to do on a snowy day off than be conceited and take pictures for the blog, right?

This past weekend was full of good food and good friends! My friend from the Navy, John, is in town for the next couple of days so we're all trying to make the most of his visit. The first place I went to was in Franklin called Tupelo Honey Cafe. I've been wanting to try out this place since before it even opened back in October. My best friend Eshie and I decided to try it out because we felt we deserved a couple drinks after work. And let me just put this out there for anyone who has a Tupelo Honey Cafe near them: you HAVE to try the P i n e a p p l e T i k i B o m b . It was the best mixed drink I have ever had and it says it's "for two" but I could down ten of those drinks all by myself. Granted they're priced at $23 each, so I probably couldn't afford or think about buying 10 of these drinks, but that's how good they were that if I had the money, or if they were a bit cheaper, that I could drink this drink like water. The other two drinks we got was a mojito and Bloody Mary. Both drinks were extremely good but still doesn't beat the Pineapple Tiki Bomb. If you're in the Franklin area and just want to go out for drinks hit up their bar! They take their drinks seriously and you can definitely taste it. Also if you're in the mood for a sweet treat, their banana pudding was pretty bomb too! The service was alright and I'm sure it would've been a lot better if they weren't so slammed, but no big complaints on my end.

On Sunday we had hot pot! I ordered the winter melon combo with beef and I meant to order two sides of firm tofu but mistakenly ordered fried tofu instead! It was still filling nonetheless. On a side note, my friend Ariel had a funny experience when he went to the bathroom. But before I get into that just keep in mind that the bathroom at this restaurant, for some reason, are super dark and your only source of light are the neon lights around the mirrors. (Kind of like a club, but bathroom setting) So he tells us that when he went to the restroom, he hears crying in the stall, and already if I were him I would've ran out the bathroom. But he came back alive so that's all that matters. And for any of you guys interested in having Hot Pot this place is located off Nolensville Pike at the South Plaza Shopping Center close to Lowes. Their service, for the first two times I went was not all that great, but the other night the waitress we had was very attentive and super nice! They're fairly new and just opened at the beginning of the year so it's understandable for service not to be that great compared to other businesses that have been around for years. If you're in the area and love hot pot or other Chinese dishes I would give this place a go.
And I know all of these pictures are only of food, but I promise I have friends! I didn't go to all these places alone lol

Got a hot date this Valentine's Day but don't know what to wear? My solution: always keep it cute but simple, sensual but classy. To project this style I created some looks on Polyvore for some ideas and inspiration. I've created looks for both the girls and guys out there and I"m sure you can find all these pieces anywhere, but if you would like a direct link to a specific item just let me know in the comments below and I'll be sure to get back to you!
These first two outfits are a bit more on the dressier side. I really love the way the first outfit came out. It has a vintage vibe to it, but more modern. Whenever I wear a midi skirt and an overcoat I try to make sure the lengths of the two match or the overcoat is longer, because it looks a bit awkward sometimes when your skirt is poking out from the bottom of your jacket/coat. Also by making sure the lengths are the same it will also ensure a more flattering silhouette. For the night time look I went with a classic red dress and a matching lip, but a nude lip always works too if you're not comfortable with wearing darker lip shades. Also with the Night Out look I was originally wanting to include a dress with a plunging neckline, since it's on trend and very sexy, but then I felt that even with a body con dress like the one pictured above, it can still deliver the same effects of both trendy and sexy without being too revealing.

For the girls who want to be more comfortable but still cute on Valentine's Day a major key point to keep in mind is to know what you feel most comfortable in. These two outfits are more toned down and what I would be more likely to wear. I kept the majority of the outfits neutral but with a slight hint of red and pink in the nails and accessories, just to make it more Valentine's Day appropriate. But you are more than welcome to incorporate more pinks, reds, and florals into your Valentine's Day OOTD til your heart's content!
Casual-Cool automatically gives off a sense of being aloof and we all know that a guy with a mysterious side always leaves us wanting more. *wink* To accomplish a more casual-cool attire you want to be more than just a t-shirt and jeans kind of guy, so throwing in a piece of outerwear like a flannel or button up will liven up your style. If you want to go the extra mile you can accessorize with a casual watch or sleek glasses. (Don't forget the bouquet of flowers, showing up empty-handed is almost just as bad as showing up in an outfit that's poorly put together) For your special late night adventure on Valentine's night I would recommend to ditch the suit and tie business. Are you going on a date? Or a business meeting? Show up in a nice, sleek button up and trousers while smelling extra good will certainly leave a good impression on that lucky Valentine of yours *wink*

A single color palette gives an instant sophisticated silhouette and for some reason it makes a man ten times more attractive. Also sticking to a single color gives an effortless look and (no offense) but you're no David Beckham, but dressing like him is still just as good. Of course if you decide to go all white you are prone to stains and getting dirty, so if you're not feeling quite confident wearing all white definitely go for all black. I believe sticking to neutrals when going for a single color outfit is best because wearing all red or more vibrant colors will come off as tacky and too over the top.
The biggest tip this coming up Valentine's Day is to treat your Valentine right while looking nice *thumbs up* and hopefully these outfit templates inspired some outfit ideas for you guys!

And for those who did happen to notice, yes I did post this before, but there was a minor mishap here at Kat Sangfroid HQ and the original post was deleted. Nonetheless, I hope you guys enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed putting these outfits together for you!

Love songs. They are a timeless classic and just hit you right in the feels every time. In honor of Valentine's Day coming up I wanted more of this month's posts to be "Love" and Valentine's Day-related, so to start I came up with a playlist of some of my favorite love songs! These songs have a special place in my heart and Just click the title of the songs below and give them a listen. Feel free to share some of your favorite love songs as well!
Did you ever make a mixtape for your significant other? I remember I made one for the first guy I ever dated and I think I made myself a copy of the same mix, or maybe he never took his copy. I can't remember, BUT I do  remember finding it years after we broke up so I gave it a listen and let's just say this was the time Soulja Boy was really popular and for some odd reason, I don't know how, but the very last song was a Suicide Silence song. And for those who don't know, Suicide Silence is a hardcore, heavy metal band. I don't know how it got on there because I could have sworm that I had Alica Keys + Usher's "My Boo" as the very last track. I mean, just imagine getting that mixtape, first off it's Soulja Boy and then it tones down to old school R&B songs, then BAM, you almost had a heart attack from some random metal song blasting in your ears. But who knows how that track got on there,  maybe the reason why we broke up is because I gave him a terrible mixtape lol.
Anyone else ever received a bad mixtape?
